“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.”
Otto von Bismarck

One of the reasons NovaTug created the CARROUSEL RAVE TUG is for crew safety and accident prevention. NovaTug, notices that too often, accidents are viewed as a single occurrence instead of part of a bigger pattern.

To help show the pattern and learn from the mistakes of others, below, you find an extensive searchable list of accidents involving tugboats, container ships and tankers. The list has taken years to compile. It covers many countries and almost 100 years. It includes photos, videos, trade publications, and accident investigation reports. Many incidents start with some loss of control like girting, girding, tripping, downstreaming, or hydrodynamic interaction. In little more than 10-15 seconds a tug will then capsize or sink. Too often, people are lost overboard, or trapped inside the overturned hull.

The people behind NovaTug hope that a shared dataset will be a useful resource for crew, operators, regulators, accident investigators, academics, port authorities, insurers, engineers, maritime pilots and members of the media. Working together, we can change outcomes!
